Cedar Key, Florida, is a series of tiny islands spanning three miles from the mainland at the southern tips of the Santa Fe and Suwannee Rivers into the Gulf of Mexico. At one point, Cedar Key was one of the largest civilian ports in Florida. With the ravages of hurricanes, industry failures, and resource depletion, the islands experienced many highs and lows. Cedar Key locals continued to rebuild and constantly reinvent their island life.
They live up to their reputation as one of the most resilient communities along the Gulf Coast.
The Cedar Key Historical Society Museum is a rare gem filled with Island history flowing through two historic buildings. For a truly unique experience, visit the museum! More information is available on our website, cedarkeyhistory.org.
This site will grow with old and new historical pictures and documents.
Cedar Key played a significant role in protecting the homeland against Germany's worldwide campaign to destroy merchant shipping by serving as an air and sea rescue base auxiliary field. Learn More!
